Got Dat Severance?

There has been an ominous cloud hovering over N.C. State for the past several weeks. The controversy surrounding the Mary Easley situation and everyone involved (including members of the Board of Trustees and the administration) has continued to escalate.

An emergency telephone conference among the Board of Trustees was called Sunday night. Media swarmed to Holladay hall after an alert via press release. Anxiously waiting in the hallway were the usual faces. No one knew what the news was going to be. It would turn out simply to be a release of information regarding the former Provost's retreat package. Earlier in the weekend it was pointed out that there were some inconsistencies in Oblinger's original story regarding the matter.

Upon arrival at work Monday morning, I am immediately told to head to campus to cover the resignation of Chancellor Oblinger. The Board of Trustees held a meeting at Park Alumni Center on Centennial Campus to discuss the matter.

After the meeting, UNC System President Erskine Bowles and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Bob Jordan addressed the media in a press conference.

I won't try to completely (or adequately) recap everything. Instead, I'll assume anyone lucky enough to stumble across my blog is either already relatively familiar with the current affairs of the university or has enough time to kill that they can google it.
