Swine Flu Fever

North Carolina became the 30th state to confirm a case of swine flu today. To announce the state's inclusion on this list was Governor Bev Perdue at a media briefing this afternoon at the Department of Health and Human Services building on Dorothea Dix campus. As of this afternoon, there were six probable cases of the virus in North Carolina. These six cases are in Wake, Craven, and Onslow counties, with the confirmed case also being from Onslow. The spouse of the confirmed case (they wouldn't release any potentially identifying details about the individual) is listed as probable and will likely be confirmed by tomorrow. Apparently they had recently returned from a trip to San Antonio.

All confirmed and probable cases are being kept in isolation. I've come to learn that isolation is different from quarantine in that it is highly suggested and not mandated, and consists mostly of education. The medical officials in the room were very quick to point out that they are not quarantining anyone.
