Pens in 4

I was hoping I wouldn't have to make this blog entry. I was certainly hoping not to have to make it after only four games. Unfortunately for my beloved Hurricanes, the Penguins were ready to play. Very ready. They dispatched the Hurricanes in just 4 games, clinching a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals by winning game 4 in Raleigh. Ouch.





Ben, being a huge Penguins fan, made the trip up from Orlando for game four. It was rad to hang out with him, and although the Hurricanes lost I'm at least a bit glad that Ben got to see his team clinch the Finals.

Hurricanes!

I'm pretty stoked about how the Hurricanes have been playing lately. I went to a game last week with Mike and it was intense. Ottawa was in town and despite being down 1-0 in the third period, the Hurricanes were able to rally two back-to-back goals and win the game. This was the team's 5th win in a row and 9th win in a row at home. This ties the franchise record. I'm going to the game tonight where they will hopefully come out on top against the Rangers and set a new record for consecutive home wins.

Capitals at Hurricanes

Work was a bit slow today. After covering a few odds and ends in the early afternoon, I made my way to the RBC Center to watch the Hurricanes game. The Capitals were in town, and we really needed the win as the regular season nears its end, so I was really interested in checking it out. My buddy Jbaz was there shooting, so I went with him down to the ice to shoot the first period. We walked across the ice to the space between the benches to shoot from there, only to find out we weren't allowed. Oops. We went to a corner and found portholes to shoot through, which worked out fine. I wasn't happy with my photos, mainly because I was shooting with a short lens and I was so uncomfortable being on my knees on the concrete for so long. I did get this out-of-focus sequence of Chad Larose giving someone the business against the boards, though.






After shooting from ice level for the first, I went up to press row to watch some of the game from there. I like watching from the top of the arena. Everything is slowed down and it is easier to see/understand/appreciate how plays develop (or fall apart). I also like the complimentary drinks and hot dogs. Another plus: press row is populated by several tv monitors. I was able to watch some rad National Geographic special that featured sharks eating seals while watching hockey.
