I immediately knew something was up when I got to work on Sunday and both of the news directors were there. Seeing them in the newsroom on a weekend, wearing anything without a tie or jacket is certainly cause for concern. I find out that a nursing home in Moore County had been the site of a shooting earlier that morning. Eight were killed and three were injured, including a police officer. I was assigned the story the next day, on Monday, and had to drive down to Carthage to do a live shot for CNN Headline News at 12:30 and then cover a press conference at 3.
I was told when I got back to the station that the shooter, Robert Stewart, looked exactly like me in twenty years. I couldn't disagree, really, but I hope I'm not that creepy looking.

Bill Cosby performed at the Durham Performing Arts Center. I was excited to go cover that, think I'd be able to enjoy some squeaky clean comedy. This quickly faded, as it turns out that Bill has a strict "no camera" policy. I was allowed to shoot in the auditorium until he took the stage, when I was ordered to immediately turn off my camera. Oh well. I did stick around for a minute and was able to catch his tribute to John Hope Franklin.
