On Sunday I leave for D.C. to cover the inauguration. I've known about the trip for a little while, but until recently was not completely prepared. I was unaware of the fact that I might be asked to cover a formal event, such as a ball, and that I would have to be dressed appropriately. This meant I would need to buy some semblance of a suit. I had no idea what size dress shirt or coat or I wore, so I was starting with nothing.
I needed shoes, a belt, a shirt, a tie, a jacket, and socks. I got all of these things, along with another shirt and another tie, in case I decided I want some variety in the future. I had intended to spend as little money as possible, scoring with a nice pair of shoes from Rack Room for $40. The rest wasn't so easy to find. Clothes in my size aren't exactly easy to find, so I was limited mostly to the Big and Tall store or Men's Wearhouse, where I did manage to find what I needed. The cheapest simple black jacket they had in a 50L (seriously, that's pretty big) was $150, which isn't so bad as far as decent 3 button suit jackets go. I decided to bite the bullet on that, but then I had to address the issue of shirts. They were buy-one get-one 50% off, so I got two. The same deal applied to ties. On a day where I had hoped to spend less then $150, I spent almost $400. Oh well, I needed the stuff and it is all versatile to get rotation in my everyday arsenal.

I got a call from State Farm today. I had talked to them yesterday and given a recorded statement of what happened, and they called to today to let me know they were accepting liability. So, an adjustor will be out on Monday to decide whether or not my vehicle is totaled and then we'll figure out what to do from there.
